Not taking any chances
I scrolled past this and the guilt was too much
i read this interesting fact the other day that pirates wore eye patches because they frequently transitioned from bright sunlight to darkness below deck and when they went below deck the covered eye would already be adjusted to darkness so they could immediately see really well and not have to wait for their eyes to adjust
THIS IS LEGIT THEY PROVED IT ON MYTHBUSTERS.
i learned this from a gay pirate au fanfic i read
we’ve taught girls to romanticise nearly everything a boy does. when i was younger i thought it was cute that boys chased the girl even after she said no. i loved it when after a girl moved away from a kiss, the guy would pull her back and force it on. i thought a guy saying ‘i won’t take a no for an answer’ was passionate and romantic. we’re literally always teaching girls to romanticise abusive traits.
[Stripping] was a crappy job. I feel really offended when people act like it was some sort of feminist statement. I don’t feel that way at all. There’s a frankenstein monster that came out of the riot grrrl scene, which has always bothered me, which is that sex work is a) eroticised, b) exoticised… .
Although I’m talking about it now, I didn’t do it for the story. I want people to know it’s a shitty job, it’s degrading and there are women there who were twice my age, paying for their kids’ tuition so that their daughters could go to gymnastics class. So fuck you, coming in and doing it for five minutes so you can write about it. It’s classist, I guess. Making fun of women who really have to do that job. Wearing a disguise.
This is really a personal thing. It’s a shitty job no doubt, but I didn’t feel degraded so much as disgusted by the creeps who came in. And people in my family stripped for years because it was the only way to make great money legally without working 7 days a week. I don’t like when women speak for all other women under the guise of feminism. It’s not a class thing whether or not you felt degraded doing your job. I felt degraded working at McDonalds because people treated me like shit for 6€ an hour. I didn’t feel degraded stripping, because I didn’t feel like I was being used, but I was using that situation to make my life better than it could have been otherwise. Maybe that’s wrong. I guess in the wider picture I was or whatever, but not every woman has to feel like shit about herself just to able to say that the system is fucked up.
What’s really wrong with stripping? Why is that so often the only option for women, especially a lot of single mothers of all ages, to make enough money legally to give their kids good lives without breaking their backs? And why, as one of the only jobs where something like that is possible, are we then expected to be ashamed and feel like shit about ourselves for doing it? Why the fuck can’t you feel empowered about the fact that you were finally able to pay your bills with a little something extra left over for actual fun, rather than scrambling - without negating the fact that jobs like these being some of the ONLY such options for lower middle and working class women is a serious class and feminist issue?
If Doctor Who was a Disney movie
haha I love what he did to Patrick Troughton
BUT LOOK AT HOW FRICKING HOT ELEVEN IS
Holy fuck. I never really understood how they caught birds before, I assumed they had to sneak up on them.
How was this even caught on camera?
did that cat fucking put the thing in its mouth in midair so it could land on its feet
Did you know that pound for pound, house cats are THE most efficient land predators?
Cats are better than you.
clap your hands if you’re bisexual, asexual, or any other sexual and get erased by both the heterosexual and homosexual community*claps with pans*
The whole point of feminism is that women should be able to make choices about their lives without an centuries-old stigma hanging over them. If Swift wants to write songs about love and date six boys in five years and has an idea that she will one day fall in love with a boy and they will live happily ever after, why is this a bad thing? She should be able to make these choices without facing criticism from an inherently sexist society that still does not have a lot of respect for women. (x)
Autism is a poorly-understood neurological disorder that can impair an individual’s ability to engage in various social interactions. But little 5-year-old Iris Grace in the UK is an excellent example of the unexpected gifts that autism can also grant – her exceptional focus and attention to detail have helped her create incredibly beautiful paintings that many of her fans (and buyers) have likened to Monet’s works.
Little Iris is slowly learning to speak, whereas most children have already begun to speak at least a few words by age 2. Along with speech therapy, her parents gradually introduced her to painting, which is when they discovered her amazing talent.
“We have been encouraging Iris to paint to help with speech therapy, joint attention and turn taking,” her mother, Arabella Carter-Johnson, explains on her website. “Then we realised that she is actually really talented and has an incredible concentration span of around 2 hours each time she paints. Her autism has created a style of painting which I have never seen in a child of her age, she has an understanding of colours and how they interact with each other.”
Much better version of the same subject matter I posted earlier.
if this isn’t the best thing you’ve seen all day then I don’t know what to tell you
Look at all the TV aerials. Looks like everyone’s got one. That’s weird. My nan said tellies were so rare they all had to pile into one house.
Not around here, love. Magpie’s Marvellous Tellies, only five quid a pop.
